For over a century, Charles Brown General Store has been the heart of Shoshone — a place where every loaf is handcrafted, every shelf is curated, and every customer is greeted like a neighbor.
Charles Brown General Store didn't start with a grand plan — it started with a simple conviction that a community deserves a place where quality isn't negotiated down to the lowest price. In 1902, Charles set up shop along State Highway 127 with a handful of shelves, a wood-fired oven, and an unwavering standard for what he'd sell.
That standard hasn't wavered. Today, we still bake every morning before sunrise. We still choose our suppliers by name. We still know our customers by name. The building has been updated, but the philosophy remains exactly what it was when the doors first opened: treat people right, and sell them something you'd put on your own table.
Every product meets a standard we'd accept in our own home.
We've been part of Shoshone's story for over a century.
Three generations deep, still run with the same care.
Everything from morning loaves to weeknight dinners — all sourced, selected, and stocked with the same attention to detail that's defined us since day one.
Hand-shaped loaves, flaky pastries, and sweet treats baked every morning before the store opens. If it's on our shelves, it came from our oven that day.
Thoughtfully curated groceries — from staple cooking oils and canned goods to specialty items you won't find in a big-box store. We pick what we'd keep ourselves.
Whether you need a cold drink on a hot Mojave day or something special for a gathering, we've got it covered — from cold sodas and juices to coffee and tea.
Our bakers arrive before dawn. While Shoshone is still quiet, the ovens are lit, the dough is shaped, and the day's first batch is already rising. By the time the store opens, every loaf, every pastry, and every pie has had time to cool — fresh from the oven, ready for whoever walks through the door.
We don't use industrial shortcuts. Our sourdough cultures have been fed and maintained for generations. Our croissants are laminated by hand. Our pies are filled the old way — with real fruit, real butter, and no shortcuts. If it's worth making, it's worth making properly.
We're right on State Highway 127 in the heart of Shoshone — easy to find, impossible to forget. Stop by for a loaf, a snack, or just a conversation.
